Well, if at first you don't suceed-try, try again. I had this beautiful page and half all typed, thought I had saved it....now it's gone. This version will probably not be as good.
The first week has kind of flown by, we have been busy setting up house, buying groce
ries and getting the essentials for living. We worked in the Temple this week during the morning hours (0700-1400), we came home very tired from running around all day, but knew that we shouldn't take a nap or we wouldn't sleep at night. As I mentioned before, the apartment is really nice, they say it is the nicest that the temple missionaries have opportunity to live in (que sera, sera). We have found most everything to be fairly expensive -using the Euro it's pretty interesting (about $1.60/Euro). We bought a can of chili for $4.50 USD, needless to say we will be careful when we eat this little bit of gold. Beef costs about $9.00 USD a pound, we'll eat this sparingly! Chicken, fish and pork are more reasonable so this will probable consume the largest part of our diets. Eat all the beef you can for me. We even stopped at Burger King the other daly and bought two #1s and it cost us $16.00 USD-it was the best Whopper we have ever had! In spite of the costs, we LOVE this place! We have yet to venture out too far from the apartment, but will do so in the coming weeks.
In the Temple, I think we hav done all of the ordinances. They just put you in charge or send you off to do something without a lot of instruction so you do what you think is correct. There are a lot people that come into the Temple Recommend Desk not knowing what this building is-last week a lady came in while I was working the desk and wanted to know when and where we baptized the babies? I said that we don't do that, I was going to give her a pamphlet on the Temple but she immediately departed with a snort (kind of reminded me of someone?). Things are a little less organized here, because you never know who will be there to work or how many patrons you will have. Each week a stake is assigned to come to the Temple from the Temple District (Portugal, 1/2 of France and all of Spain) and work the entire week-there are hotel rooms available for them to stay at in our building. This past week the stake was from Portugal and this next week is also from there (Lisboa). The saints are faithful and we love being with them. Their ways are just a little bit different from ours.
We attended a dance on Friday night for the Institute here in Madrid, there were about 200 youth and it seemed to be really successul. Of course, it started late, but the food and
entertainment were really good. They decorated the gynasium as if they were in Paris (Jeff, Kristy, Mom and Dad have good memories of Paris-"Perdon"). Some of the youth stayed and attended our ward today and it was good to see them and tell them what a good job they did. The ward is rather large, the chapel is full every week, but we haven't seen the Bishop either week-not sure where he is?
We were set apart last Tuesday before we could start working in the Temple and in my setting apart blessing President Howard told me that I was to learn all of the ordinances in Protugese. I opened my eyes to see if he was talking to me....I guess I'll start studying this language in the next couple of weeks. We have worked with saints from everywhere in just this one week. We truly have seen the "gift of tongues" come to life. You'll work with one saint that speaks Spanish, the very next one is from France, the next from Portugal or Italy....it keeps you on your toes.
This next Monday we will be having a Family Night honoring three couples that will be leaving in the next couple of weeks (two are locals and one is from Atlanta) and welcoming the Shaw's that just arrived. Of course, we all have food assignment. It should be a good time. All of the missionaries treat us like kings and queens and have been so gracias with their time and resources. There are about 5 of us here that served our missions in Uruguay-Paraguay including President Howard....is there a common thread here?
Mom is coming along with her spanish and is understanding more and more everyday day...me too! Some of the people talk so fast and kind of slur their words that it is almost impossible to understand-then you kind of feel stupid-oh well, what's new.
We have enjoyed seeing and talking to most of you this week via the webcam....it works really well, with the exception of Jeff yesterday. You all look so good and we are proud to be your parents.
Congratulations to the new "Marathon Queen" - Malia, we're not sure how smart you really are (we wouldn't drive 26 miles), but congratulations to you! I'm sure that is one of the hardest things that you will ever do...take care of yourself and recover fully! Glad you could use the massage! We also hear that you got your hair cut....looking forward to seeing you on the cam!
Ashtyn has a birthday coming up and we wish her a Happy Birthday....you certainly are a beautiful young lady! We will miss giving you hugs and kisses, but know that we are proud of you.

ter-day Saints is TRUE! We are all involved in the work of the Lord. We love our mission, we miss each one of you, but want you to know that we are here for some purpose...one day we will come to know exactly what that is. In the meantime we will stive to do what we are supposed to do so we can be prepared! Take good care of yourselves....We love all of you with all of our hearts and want you to know that we pray for your safety, protection and well being each and every morning and night. We continually keep your names on the prayer roll of the Temple.

Dad, sorry you had trouble with this post. Do you do it in word then cut and paste? Blogger should be saving it every couple of minutes as you type.
For some reason I didn't even think about all of the different languages you guys were going to run in to at the temple, that is crazy. Pretty cool that Pres. Howard said you would learn Portugese, I know you will pick it up fast. You guys are amazing!!! Can't wait to see you on the webcam again:)
