We had a busy wonderful week. Monday we went downtown to do some shopping, which wasn’t near as fun for me without my shopping buddy Sharon Lunt! There’s not a lot of buying that takes place when I’m just with Tom!
We had the people from Barcelona at the Temple and a few Portuguese people also. They held an EFY in Madrid for the first time in Madrid so some of the adults from Santiago came on the bus with the youth. We were kept busy all week long in every area. Many family names were done, which is such a blessing for those who did them and those waiting to receive. We didn’t remember being this busy last summer, but we are not complaining it’s great.
On Tuesday Tom had a sore calf and was limping quite a bit. Everyone said he should go get it checked. There is an emergency care place really close to the Temple so we went there. They said they could not treat him because they had no chart on him, and that he would have to go to a Doctor he’d been to. I’m glad it wasn’t a real emergency because you could expire before you got waited on! There is also only one hospital the church would recommend to go to which isn’t super close. Luckily the pain is going away so we haven't had to get it looked at.
On Thursday we had the four full time elders assigned to our ward to lunch. Man can they eat! We had made twenty chicken enchiladas and they ate all but one!
We had Elders Haynie, Stearns, Rands, and Forberg. Elder Stearns brother (Nick) had played football for BYU and played fullback. He played when Luke Staley was there. These are wonderful Elder’s. They said that the work is going well in Madrid. They shared a scripture and a thought with us before they left. It was great to get to know them better and to feel of their spirit.On Friday we had three Sister Missionaries come for lunch.
We had Sisters Toon, Barnes, and Miller. Sister Miller is the Physician’s Assistant for the Madrid Mission, MTC and the Temple Missionaries. They had a Doctor here before but he has gone home and now the main Doctor for the District is in Germany. So if there are prescriptions needed or questions that Sister Miller doesn’t have an answer to then they call the other Doctor. She is older, about thirty. Sister Barnes is older than the norm also. She finished college with a Masters degree before she came out. She is twenty eight. We had a wonderful time with them also. We had taco soup and they were so excited to have some American food. They also shared a message with us. The spirit was very strong as we shared some thoughts.On Friday when we worked at the Temple we found out that one of the American couples (Temple Missionaries) were going to be leaving the next day unexpectedly. They were originally scheduled to go home in the end of December. We have told you about them they are the Bradshaw’s from Texas. Apparently Sister Bradshaw had gone to the Doctor with a lump she had discovered. It seemed to be growing rapidly and so they decided that they would rather go home and have further tests taken. We hope and pray that it will not be serious and that everything will work out alright. They would not be coming back since they were close to the end of their Mission.
Today we had The Rusts and Sister Linares to lunch.
They will be leaving in a week and a half. They are going to tour the Scandinavian countries and go to five different Temples. We are really going to miss them. When they leave there will only be us and the Taggart’s left of the American Temple Missionaries. This is a new missionary couple from Portugal (Moreira's) they will be here for one month and are enjoying their first assignment in the Temple. They recently completed a proselyting mission in Portugal.
It is hard to say good bye to other Missionaries who we might not see again. Also as Tom has mentioned it is very hard to say goodbye to so many of the patrons who will not be coming back to the Temple before we leave. We have truly met some wonderful people while serving here. We hope all of you are well and happy. It seems like there has been a lot of sickness lately in the family. We pray for your well being and protection constantly. We pray that the spirit of the Lord will be in your homes and helping you in every way. By the way happy anniversary this week to Paul and Kellie, Kristy and Miles, and Jeff and Amanda!We love you all Mom and Dad / Nana and Papa / Elder y Hermana Shaw
